In 1998, we built the first two coffins that would kick off an unbelievable obsession of decorating the yard for Halloween and Christmas. For the next 20+ years, we would build ridiculous things like a 12-foot grim reaper that had a 9-foot moving arm, a life-size elf-house, an 8×16 barn from fence wood that could be used for BOTH Halloween and Christmas, and many other things that we’ll be posting about in the future on this site.
It also led us to experiment with so many different things that would lead us to website concepts like howtohalloween.com, a funny video of “how NOT to” with Grim & Igor, and two Instagram accounts for @howtohalloween31 and @thehowtoholiday. We have a Pinterest account too, but it’s been seriously neglected (we’ll be changing that very soon).
Along the way, we also had so many ideas for Halloween, Christmas, and other holiday decorations that we wanted to make for others who were wanting to join in on this obsession, but maybe didn’t have the skills to build them. We quickly got tired of seeing the same crappy products at stores that were pricey and definitely would last as long as the stuff we’ve made. Turns out, we aren’t the only ones who’ve thought that…LOL. Over time, the ideas grew way beyond what you would call a “healthy hobby”, so we officially formed How To Holiday, LLC as a business in August, 2020.
Right on the heels of forming the business, we opened up our Etsy shop, and were absolutely floored by the positive response to our products. To our customers in 2020, 2021, and 2022 (so far), THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH! We can’t tell you how much we appreciate your support. It takes so much to do this on top of our day jobs, and the countless 5-star reviews and positive messages from you all make it soooooooo worth getting back in the garage to move things forward!
With that, there is definitely more to come! Until then, Make A Happy Holiday!
Matt, Mark & Curtis
